A QLD nurse is celebrating after her recent workplace WIN against her employer. On the brink of breaking under the weight of burnout and feeling overwhelmed by their heavy workload, our member first reached out to their employer for help. Unfortunately, silence and a dismissive attitude was what they got.
Disheartened, but not discouraged, the nurse reached out to NPAQ for help. Our case managers are specially trained to assist employees with work-related issues, one was quickly assigned to their case, and delved deep into the Nurse's specific predicament and the factors fuelling their burnout.

One of the major steps taken was a direct appeal to QLD Health, based on common sense and compassion, for a reduction in the Nurse's hours and workload. Our case manager was able to successfully argue for a more manageable schedule.

Moreover, our case manager was able to help the Nurse overturn a previous denial of early maternity leave from QLD Health. By providing the necessary documentation and making a compelling case, the case manager was able to secure the approval of the leave, allowing the Nurse to take the time they needed to nurture their growing family.
