How to Find and Request Professional Indemnity Certificate and Letter

Associations take out Professional Indemnity Protection policies, covering their members up to $10 million per workplace-related claim.

Find your association's Certificate of Currency or Deed of Coverage

Some red union associations have policies based on their industry. The IWUA and SOPAA don't.

 Industries with professional indemnity arrangements include: 

  • Nurses: The Nurses Professional Association of Australia lists their professional indemnity details on their website (here).
    Same as NPAQ, NPAN, NPAV, NPASA, and NPAWA.
  • Teachers: The Teachers Professional Association of Australia lists their professional indemnity details on their website (here).
    Same as TPAQ, TPAV, TPAN, TPASA, and TPAWA.
  • Allied Health: The Australian Medical Professionals Society list their professional indemnity details on their website (here). 

Those without professional indemnity arrangements are:

  • The Independent Workers Union of Australia.

  • Sworn Officers Professional Association of Australia.

  • Self Employed First.

However, all eligible members are provided workplace proctection via access to industrial teams and legal funding. 

Accessing your Personalised Professional Indemnity Letter

Eligible members may request a letter outlining their professional indemnity coverage from their association's secretary. 

This letter outlines the arrangement "to whom it may concern" and is often requested by employers as part of their employment checklist. 

These are usually provided within 1 hour of a request. 

Option A - Download from the Dashboard
  • Log in to your Member Portal at member.redunion.com.au (AU) or member.unions.co.nz (NZ) using your current member email address and mobile phone for verification.

  • On the portal dashboard:

    • Navigate to "Manage your membership" ->

    • Click on the "Generate PII Certificate" card, if it works -> 

    • Wait 5 minutes -> 

    • Check your email inbox for your certificate.
  • If you get a pop-up or an error message, you'll need to contact Hotline or your support contact to find out why. 

Option B - Request from the Hotline
  • If you are having trouble requesting your personalised letter online, our team can help:

    • Call us on our 24/7 Member Support Hotline – 1300 263 374.
    • Send us an email to hotline@redunion.com.au.
    • Start a Live Chat during business hours and requesting a human.
    • Use the hotline's SMS number (if you've been provided it). 
  • The Hotline is able to generate these letters and send them to you directly, but they will need to confirm your identity and ensure all the necessary details pass a check.

    General Eligibility Criteria

    General elegibility criteria for receiving a personalised letter: 

    • Must be a full financial member of an insured association (i.e. part-time, full-time).
    • Up-to-date on payments. 
    • Have provided the basic job details, like role or classification. 

    Key Exclusion - Non-employment

    Only employment-related claims that occur while performing the eligible activites (listed on the certificates) are covered.

    If you're a business or contractor, the support hub can help guide you to insurance brokers they use. So the following activities are automatically excluded (even if a member):

    • Independent Contractors, 

    • Sole practitioners, nor 

    • Companies.
